If you're not sure if it's ok to be who you are, it always is. These few did and I'm eternally grateful. There's strength in their stories of finding your way when the map you look at is different from everyone's around you.
peace my friends.

the 10th annual avant garde festival (on a train of penn central cars)
On December 9, 1973, cellist and performance artist Charlotte Moorman held the 10th Annual Avant Garde Festival of New York at Grand Central Station. She established the festival in 1963 as an open forum for the burgeoning experimental music and performance scene that was emerging out of Fluxus. The festival ran for 15 years at equally avant garde venues such as Whitehall Terminal/Staten Island Ferry, Ward Island, Grand Central Terminal, Shea Stadium and more. All images here were shot that eve by Allen Tannenbaum and are from the book New York in the 70s.
